Cafe Bebe Week in Review

Posted by on Mar 26, 2011 in Little Miss Adventures, Motherhood | 4 comments

As I’m taking a bit of a break from The Gallery and Silent Sunday, I thought that I would take Saturdays to regale you with what we get up to during the week. Obviously this will mostly be of interest to my family (Hi Family!) and mostly featuring Little Miss but she is rather cute and we do get up to some fun things from time to time.

Sunday 20 March…A Day of Temper Tantrums, a new telly and two exasperated parents!

Monday 21 March…a new day, nursery (thank God!) and the arrival of an Innocent hamper! All will be revealed in the month of April!

Tuesday 22 March…a day of NO PICTURES??? How can this be? I must try harder! I do always marvel if I miss a day of taking a picture and then lament the lost opportunity to mark the day somehow. Can’t really get that back, can I? Darn! We did manage to walk to and from play group which I am pleased with. Operation CyberMummy11 is still in effect. I am struggling with my diet, however…being a coeliac makes snacking a bit more challenging but I can’t seem to stop being hungry. Being home most of the time doesn’t help that either. Lament, lament, lament!

Wednesday 23 March…Spring decided to show it’s lovely face again. The sun was shining and the air was warmer. We’ve been able to get back out into the garden and enjoy what little space we have. Little Miss has been jumping like a mad woman on her trampoline and the sandbox has been losing sand at a rate of knots! Daddy’s not quite so pleased about this last one!

Thursday 24 March…Nursery again, with best mate Little Bean while Mummy Matters and I walked our breakfasts off. Spring turned up for a second day so we’re pretty sure that it actually is Spring now! We finally saw Daddy before 7:00pm and took advantage of the remaining light of the evening to go down to the park for a good play. I managed to get a kind of cool picture of the sky behind my two favourite people.

Friday 25 March…With a third day of sunshine and blue skies, I decided to turn off the computer for a change and get outside with Little Miss. We set off at 10:00am and didn’t come home until 2:00pm! We parked at Burghley carpark and walked into Stamford. A trip to feed the ducks, a lengthy play at the park and a scrummy brunch at Cafe Black made the day rather delightful. I was so worn out that I went to bed at 10:00pm which is unheard of. Maybe I should get some fresh air more often?! Do you think?

While we were at the park, Little Miss wanted to pick some flowers for Daddy. Aw, what an adorable girl. I still have the flowers in a wipe…not sure Daddy wants them in that state!

Saturday 26 March…As Daddy was off to work again this Saturday and Little Miss has so enjoyed painting at nursery, I put aside my OCD tendencies and pulled out the paints and easel this morning. She managed a lovely, slightly impressionistic/pointalistic painting don’t you think? The sun has got it’s hat on today so I think our adventures will be confined to the indoors, unfortunately, today. We can’t have it all, can we?

Play

playella4 PlayThe theme of today’s Gallery is ONE WORD.

Our ONE WORD is PLAY!

On Monday the sun came out. This was a very good thing indeed. I promised Little Miss that after her nap, we’d take her balance bike and go down to the park. We haven’t been down to our park for ages. In fact, I think the last time we went to our park was when our dog, Sinjin, was still alive and kicking. This was a while ago indeed.

Little Miss loves ANY park. I need to be a better Mummy and take her more often…bad Mummy.

playella2 PlayLittle Miss is big enough and brave enough to tackle the mushrooms in the play area. I remember teaching her to do it herself last autumn. She’s so fiercely independent and stubborn. I have no idea where she gets it!

playella3 PlayBut Little Miss favourite thing to play on is the SLIDE! Weeeeeeee! I just wish we had a bigger, better, g0-faster-sort-of slide. We’ll have to go to another park for that one I guess.

playella PlayAnd then it was time to go home…but we’ll make a much better effort to get out and enjoy the fresh air as long  as the sunshine cooperates. And Mummy promises to PLAY more, Little Miss. I promise…

Blowing Sunshine

Posted by on Nov 24, 2009 in Motherhood, Writing Workshop | 11 comments

Yet another inspirational writing prompt from Josie at Sleep is for the Weak has led me to recall the best piece of advice I could remember.  Apparently I was the one who came up with this little gem, but my Dad has really been the one to take it and run with it!

Summer20092009 225x300 Blowing Sunshine“WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, BLOW SUNSHINE UP THEIR ASSES!”

I don’t really remember sharing this prolific and high-brow piece of advice but it has become my Dad’s motto and is a rather good piece of advice, methinks!  Basically, it requires you, no matter what the situation and the pure vileness of the person involved, to smile, suck it up and blow some quality sunshine up the arse of said vile person.  I don’t feel that this means that you have to be a doormat, however.  The main gist of the kernel of brilliance that came out of my brain is that, at all times, remain cool, take the high road and SMILE.  Perhaps do a bit of “greasing the wheel” with some people in order to get what you want?  Never let them see you sweat and all that.  You see, when someone is being a PRAT, they’re more than likely hoping to make your day as miserable as theirs but you CANNOT let them!  Smile, throw it back in their face as nicely as possible and go on your merry way leaving them with the knowledge that they have not achieved their goal.

According to my wise father, a bit of “sunshine blowing” can be immensely effective, particularly with the real “powers that be” in any business…the cleaners and the secretaries.  These are the people you want on your side because if THEY don’t like you they WILL make your life miserable!  I think this advice pertains to marriage as well!  If you want your husband to do something around the house, perhaps a bit of praise and “nobody does it better” sort of thing will get that task accomplished.  I know I’m a bit more receptive to someone’s request if there’s a bit of PRAISE involved beforehand.  And of course, this applies to your children but I wouldn’t use the phrase “Blowing Sunshine Up Their Asses” as this could prove problematic as they let it fly to the nearest teacher at school.  I can see it now…your precious child standing up at the front of the class for show and tell…”MY MUMMY ALWAYS SAYS BLOW SOME SUNSHINE UP THEIR ASSES!”…  There might be a parent-teacher conference involved after that one!

So, give it a go this week.  When someone is really winding you up, BLOW SUNSHINE UP THEIR ASS and walk away knowing you may have made a bit of a difference.  It just might work.  If you try and succeed, come back and share your results with me!  What’s your favourite kernel of advice?
