Weekend Back to Reality

Sunday it was time to get back to reality. I had been in London since Friday afternoon and had left my two favourite people in charge of each other. They got along famously (and perhaps didn’t miss me at all) but I missed them. I was up at the crack of dawn on Sunday to take Ella downstairs to enjoy her “pressies” and then we were off for the rest of our day. I was exhausted beyond belief and would have been better served by napping the day away. But we piled in the car and had a wonderful day together that included ice cream for Ella (and Daddy). Reality is a pretty wonderful place to be after all.

Happy Valentines Day on the Big Screen

Happy Valentines Day Happy Valentines Day on the Big ScreenThis past weekend we spent a bit of time in Birmingham. Hubby went to Telford to a Motocross Motorbike Show while Little Miss and I met up with our niece, Pippa, who attends University in Birmingham. We were wasting time in what I think is Chamberlain Square. There was a gorgeous fountain and loads of steps for Little Miss to hop up and down.

After looking at it for an age, I realised that I could Tweet a Valentines Message onto it so I did.

That’s what you see in the photo above. A special message of Valentine’s Love for my Little Miss and Hubby from Me!

I was quite excited to see it on screen. Happy Valentines Day to everyone. Give your loved ones a cuddle today and show them how much they mean to you…no matter if you HATE Valentine’s Day. A cuddle and a kiss is pretty good…flowers might be nice…”I love you!” is the best.

Giving Thanks

Posted by on Nov 25, 2010 in Motherhood | 3 comments

IMG00279 20101027 1151 300x225 Giving ThanksIt’s that time of year again. Thanksgiving. The time of year when all Americans living outside of America tend to feel more than a bit homesick. The time of year when you miss bizarre things like stuffing, candied yams, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie. The time of year when you wish you could watch a good old (American) football game on the telly after eating way too much. The time of year when family come from far and near to be together for no other reason than to be together. There are no presents (unless you count food or drink). It’s family time plain and simple. And it’s everyone’s time to think about giving thanks.

When I was young, we always spent Thanksgiving with my Dad’s parents. In Wisconsin, deer hunting falls in the weeks before and after Thanksgiving. It’s usually only a two week season and is quite popular. My Grandpa, Dad and brother all went deer hunting, including on Thanksgiving. My family always treated it a bit differently though. My Grandpa, in particular, enjoyed deer hunting more for the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy nature. They weren’t in it for the glory of the “hunt”; they did it to spend time together.

We would travel the very short distance to my grandparent’s farm on Wednesday evening, sleep over and then enjoy the Thanksgiving day as a family. My Grandma ruled in the kitchen and always turned out a delightful meal. As I didn’t like pumpkin pie (what a sin!), she always made a second pie, apple, for me. We would enjoy that meal (eaten in 1/3 the time that it took to make it) and then retire to the living room to claim couches, chairs and sections of floor to loosen our belts and watch a football game. At some point around 5-6pm, we’d all decided we were hungry again and would have cold selections from what we had just devoured hours prior. It was wonderful.

One year, someone in our family suggested that we go around the table and share what we were grateful for. I’ll use this post for my thanks giving this year.

  • I’m thankful that I have a husband who loves me, a daughter who’s healthy and delightful and a home that is warm and full of love.
  • I’m thankful that in this economy that my husband has a job which keeps our home warm and full of love even if it does stress him out ridiculously.
  • I’m thankful that I have found my own place in this world with blogging and writing which allows me to fulfill childhood dreams.
  • I’m thankful for my friend Sabina and her family who have brightened my days and helped me to come out of my reclusive hole that I dug for myself.
  • I’m thankful that my parents are healthy and vital and that we have Skype so they can see their granddaughter grow and change.
  • I’m thankful that I still have my grandmothers on this earth even though I haven’t seen either of them for a year and neither of them are as healthy as they used to be.
  • I’m thankful for some of the amazing friends I have made through writing and blogging. They have given me a sense of belonging in this country that I was yearning for.
  • I’m thankful that I’m finally going to sort out my health issues and am looking forward to 2011 and feeling much better.
  • I’m thankful for the opportunities I have had to visit places I never would have and receive things for our family that never would have been affordable to us.
  • I’m thankful for my inlaws who are so supportive of me and their son and have given so much of themselves and their time to be an active part of Little Miss’ life.
  • I’m thankful for my life in an amazing country and the freedom to fulfill my dreams.

Today I’m giving thanks for an amazing year, wonderful family and great opportunities. We may not have roast turkey and stuffing and all the trimmings but we have each other and that’s all that matters. Happy Thanksgiving to my English friends and family, my American friends and family and everyone who has tuned in to Cafe Bebe this year.

The Two Loves of my Life

After a rather difficult week and a nice break from blogging and tweeting, I feel loads better. I’ve spent some quality time with my daughter and husband and been reminded that, really, all you need is love! Thank you to Mr Cafe Bebe and Little Miss for reminding me of that!

All that matters

IMG00006 20100823 0735 300x225 All that matters

Mr Cafe Bebe & Little Miss

There have been a few bumps in the Cafe Bebe road lately. Nothing earth shattering but things that have unfortunately made me question how much I can trust people. I blog because I love writing. I blog because I love sharing our adventures and my love for my Little Miss and my husband. I love that my friends and family can see what we’re up to on an almost daily basis. I love that this blog will be a living reminder of an amazing time in my life (as long as I don’t hit delete). But I have been reminded that all that matters is the people who love me and who I love.

Sudocrem is great Mummy!

I didn’t start blogging to get drawn back into messy wars and school yard antics. I don’t blog to whinge and moan (unless it’s really bad) and I most definitely don’t blog to cause problems. Cafe Bebe is a happy place. I am a (mostly) happy person but I get easily crushed and disappointed by people. I can be ridiculously naive sometimes and I greatly regret it. What matters to me is the health, safety and happiness of my daughter, husband, family and close friends. I won’t let silliness break me or cause me to question myself.

Mr Bebe...you light up my life!

From now on I’m going to wise up a bit; put up some bars on the always open window; think before I speak. When I really want to whinge or off-load, I’m going to talk to myself! Nothing new there, really. And Cafe Bebe will always be open for business no matter what. Thank you to those of you who tune in regularly and forgive me for digressing into cryptic writing. Enjoy a few snaps of those who are my life…after all, they’re all that matters.
