Cafe Bebe’s Mother’s Day Wish List

CBTwitterMarch 251x300 Cafe Bebes Mothers Day Wish ListMother’s Day is THIS SUNDAY!!! That’s Sunday 3 April folks! My American friends and family will think I’ve gone potty as American Mother’s Day is always the 2nd Sunday in May (8 May, 2011). We like to complicate things in the UK by varying Mother’s Day (or Mothering Sunday) based on the Lenten Calendar. Go figure! So every Spring, Mother’s Day is different. As if it wasn’t challenging enough for our families…we go and alter the date every year. Geesh!

I’ve recorded a wee vlog to share with you the Cafe Bebe Mother’s Day wish list. Mind you, I don’t expect to get any of it so I’m drastically lowering my expectations so I’m not too disappointed. I think all mothers will be happy with a lovely day spent with friends and family so I’ll be the same! However, if any Mother’s Day Fairy Godmothers are out there, I have prepared a list for you. Enjoy!

If I Had a Million Dollars

Posted by on Feb 26, 2010 in Writing Workshop | 3 comments

million dollar bill 300x120 If I Had a Million DollarsMy blogging friend, Josie, has given us a Writing Workshop prompt which challenged us to take ourselves on a £1000 shopping spree.  As this is my blog and I’m ever so creative, I have decided to change the amount as there’s no way that I could get what I needed for £1000.  If you don’t agree with me changing the rules, sorry…blog about £1000 on your site and prove it can be done!

I shall, first and foremost, give you a song/video that you can listen to whilst reading my post.  I have nicked the title of my post from the Barenaked Ladies song of the same name.  Enjoy!

When I was trying to figure out how I could spend £1000, I realised that it wouldn’t work because I wanted to buy things for my daughter, husband and myself.  Thus, the financial deposit of $1,000,000 in my virtual bank account.

Little Miss' Wish List

Little Miss' Wish List

Little Miss would love to have some Fisher Price Little People sets.  We will happily add the following to our virtual shopping cart:

Little People Little People2Little People3These all run about $20 but we’ll say $25 to round up and that makes $75.  Throw in a few sets of extra animals and people so that there are plenty of multi-cultural friends and fauna and let’s call it an even $100

Now we shall move on to Duplo…a newly acquired toy of joy!

Duplo 150x150 If I Had a Million Dollars Duplo2 150x150 If I Had a Million Dollars Duplo3 150x150 If I Had a Million DollarsThis bloomin’ Duplo stuff…absolutely brilliant but SO EXPENSIVE!  It averages about £40 but £50 for most sets.  Let’s call it $200 and my daughter will be in bliss.

Now, for some outdoor fun for the 4 sunny days we get each year in England.

Shockingly, this set is £500!  We’ll call it $800 and be set!

So, for Little Miss alone, that makes $1100.  If we could also throw in a year’s membership and classes at Tumble Tots (£25 membership, £40/term x 4 terms = £200; converted = $300

Total for Little Miss:  $1400

Hubby's Wish List

My hard working hubby deserves to not be so hard working so he can spend more time with us and doesn’t have to be so stressed from work, so, I would like to buy him approximately the rest of his life to not have to work.  This would equate to approximately $600,000.  I would also like to buy him the mountain bike of his dreams (he’s telling me about a Yeti) so I’ll give him $5000 for that.  And for it never to break or break down…$1000 to cover that so $6000. I would also like to allocate $300,000 for us to buy a new house somewhere near where we are…I’ll let him pick where as long as I can choose fixtures, furniture and decoration.  Total for Hubby = $906,000

Total for Little Miss = $1,400 + Total for Hubby = $906,000 = $907, 400

What’s left for me?  $92,600

Happy Family!

Happy Family!

Apple MacBook Pro

Apple MacBook Pro

I would love to have a new laptop so I can write and work without incident during daytime hours and then have time for my husband at night instead of working at night on his laptop.  I would happily switch allegiance to the Apple MacBook Pro which I believe would run me around $2000 with bells and whistles and all that jazz.

I would also love to have a Blackberry AND and iPhone just like @mummytips and perhaps a holster to carry them both in so I can be extra cool.  If I could have the best plan possible for them both, that would be great.  I might be able to leave the house for more than a few hours at a time and still tend to my responsibilities.  Let’s call it an even $2000 for that lot.  And then I would REALLY love to have a bit of pampering- hair, nails, facial, massage, make-up- the works.  I’ll take $1000 for that.  Maybe a new wardrobe would be good as well as Claire at The Good, The Bad & The Ugly says that I have to stop wearing my husband’s clothes.  I’ll give Claire $2000 to kit me out with sensible, flattering clothes.  And that leaves…

Too much money!  I’ll give a bit more for some holidays and airfare for family to visit and then give everyone the best Christmas ever!  Oh, maybe a lovely new set of furniture for our lounge and my daughter’s university education for about $50,000

What would you do “if you had a million dollars”?

The Funky Pigeon

Posted by on Nov 9, 2009 in Great Finds, Toys and Games | 0 comments

The amazing world that is Twitter has allowed me to meet some amazing individuals. I was “tweeted” by a company called The Funky Pigeon last week. What, may you ask, is The Funky Pigeon? Well, it’s a very clever new site which specialises in personalising just about everything under the sun. They have cards, calendars, posters, flowers and gift packages which can be sent direct to you to give to someone or sent directly to the recipient. As Christmas is just around the corner, I was asked by Nina at The Funky Pigeon if I wouldn’t mind testing out their ordering system to receive a personalised Letter from Santa and a matching Door Hanger. Sure! A keepsake pressie for my daughter? No problems!
Funky Pigeon

  • STRENGTHS:  The ordering process is very straightforward on The Funky Pigeon.  You simply register an account with basic details, order your items and pay through any number of payment methods (PayPal, Google Checkout, Major Credit Cards).  The site is easy to navigate and entertaining to browse.  I was able to personalise Little Miss’ Letter from Santa by including her name, something she’s accomplished this year and what present she’s hoping for.  I could also specify if I wanted the letter addressed to Little Miss and whether it shouldn’t be opened before Christmas.  I was also able to select a matching door hanger with Little Miss’ name on it.  Despite difficulties with Royal Mail, I ordered the Letter and Door Hanger on a Thursday (before 2pm) and received it on Friday!  Now, that’s service!
  • WEAKNESSES:  The only real complaint that I had was that the boldness of the print on Little Miss’ letter was a bit light.  The font was more of a “handwriting” style which is very appropriate as it’s written by Santa and all, but it could stand to be just a bit darker.
  • OPINION:  The Funky Pigeon has really found a great niche, particularly before the holidays.  The prices are reasonable, the quality of the products is high and the creativity is fantastic.  Although Little Miss is only 17 months and can’t read or really appreciate who Santa is yet, we will keep this letter for her and share it each year.  It will be a real keepsake for her.  I particularly appreciated the speed with which we received Little Miss’ letter and door hanger which is very encouraging as the weeks wind down before Christmas.
  • TECHNICAL STUFF:  The personalised Santa letter was £4.99 + .47 postage; the personalise Door Hanger was £2.99 + .47 postage.
  • RATING:  5 out of 5
