Is “The Hungry Caterpillar” a firm favourite in your household? It is in the Cafe Bebe family! Little Miss loves it! She always says the “Pop” part when the caterpillar comes out of his little egg on a leaf and she still manages to fit her fingers in the holes of all of the fruit and foods. Did you know that “The Hungry Caterpillar” has been voted the UK’s all-time favourite children’s bedtime story? Since its publication in 1969, one copy has been sold every minute world-wide! That’s a heck of a lot of copies! And how many books that are 41 years old are still relevant today? Not many. Eric Carle has written some brilliant stories like “The Very Busy Spider” which is also one of Little Miss’ favourites.
According to a survey conducted by Munch Bunch, 1 in 10 parents haven’t read a bedtime story to their children in the last six months. In the Cafe Bebe household, Hubby is the bedtime storyteller. It HAS to be this way…just like Mummy HAS to give Little Miss her nighttime bottle! It’s ROUTINE. For quite a while, “Run, Run, It’s Scary Poo” has been the story of choice but we throw in a few others for variety. It’s a wonderful moment for Daddy and Little Miss as, during the week in particular, Hubby doesn’t get to spend a lot of time with Little Miss. They at least get to snuggle up in the rocking chair in Little Miss’ room every night and have some quiet time together. She loves it and I think Hubby is rather fond of it as well.
What if you could read your child your own, personally written and published bedtime story? Munch Bunch is running a competition asking all parents to start storytelling with Munch Bunch. Munch Bunch is even helping you out with a writing prompt: “Once upon a Munch Time, there was a cow called Munch…” There are no other limits or specification after that so let your imagination run wild with you! You have until 25 June, 2010 to submit your entries for the competition and winners will be notified within 3 weeks of the end of submissions. A jury will select 1 national winner and 10 regional winners. The national winner will win a £1000 cash prize and winner’s certificate in addition to having their work published as a downloadable story sheet on www.munchbunch.co.uk. The 10 regional winners will each receive a £500 cash prize and certificate, a day in a London recording studio seeing your work created in podcast form as well as being published in downloadable story sheet format. How amazing would that be? So if you’re interested in being a published children’s author, check out the Munch Bunch site in order to submit your work.

I’m sure everyone who sees this image immediately knows who it is! “Ah, yes, Miffy!” Miffy was created in 1955 by Dick Bruna who, while on holiday with his family, would tell his oldest son bedtime stories about a white rabbit who lived in the garden of the holiday home. And thus began a loveable childhood character. I was contacted by Highlight PR to see if I was interested in running a competition for my faithful readers with some Miffy products as the prize.
