Mama Needs a New Bag

Posted by on Aug 19, 2010 in Product Reviews | 16 comments

front en 091016 300x235 Mama Needs a New BagIt’s transition time and mama needs a new bag! Little Miss is now 2 years old. We no longer need to take the entire house with us when we go out. It’s a welcome change! I adore changing bags. It’s a bit of an obsession with me. When I see mums & pushchairs the first thing I look at is what make/model of pushchair they have and then what sort of bag is hanging off the handlebars. Even though I don’t need them I still look longingly at them in department stores. I have a problem.

My mom surprised me with a Skip Hop Duo Deluxe changing bag in Blossom about a year or so ago. The Graco changing bag that came with our original Graco Tour Deluxe travel system was no longer suitable at that time as it was ripping and looking a bit tatty. The Skip Hop was a very welcome replacement and suited our needs perfectly. It still does but perhaps for longer trips out and not so much the daily outings now.

About a month ago I got an email from a lovely lady called Jenny from Willvin of Sweden. They wanted me to test and review one of their changing bags! And offer a competition prize to one of my lovely readers! Wowie Zowie as Little Miss says! A new changing bag to trial and review and one for the readers as well? It didn’t take me long to type out a reply.

I chose to review the Willvin Magnificent Leatherette in Brown as I wanted to have a bag that hubby was happy to tote along on the occasions when he takes Little Miss out on his own.

230x700 LEA Willvin 091221 77 Mama Needs a New BagThe bag is luuuuuuvly! One of my favourite things about the Willvin changing bag is that it doesn’t LOOK like a changing bag. My niece mentioned the same thing. And I really adore the zipped compartment at the bottom of the bag. I now keep Little Miss’ nappies and wipes in there which makes fishing them out infinitely easier than before when they were stuffed in inner pockets of our previous changing bag.

The bag also comes with a thin changing mat, nylon nappy/clothes bag, a zipped plastic pouch and a drinks/bottle bag. To be perfectly honest, as Little Miss is now 2 we don’t need to have those additional accessories with us but they are exceptionally useful, particularly for younger babies.

I really like the fact that the Willvin bag has 2 zipped compartments as well as pockets with very strong velcro. I feel that my belongings are very secure in this bag. We went out and about last weekend in the POURING rain and the Willvin bag did get wet but as it’s made of leatherette/artificial leather it was basically waterproof but also didn’t show any water marks which real leather would. Everything in the bag was dry and safe! Perfect!

The Willvin bag also comes with stroller straps that allow you to clip the bag onto the handlebars of your pushchair with ease. The only awkward thing is that you have to remove the shoulder strap to allow you to clip the stroller straps onto the pushchair which makes transitioning from the pushchair to your shoulder a little slower. This is a small inconvenience, however. The only negative I could find is that the mesh pockets on either end of the bag are rather small. I struggled to put a sippy cup in it and in the end gave up as I didn’t want to stretch them out. I put the sippy cup in the inner compartment instead which isn’t as handy.

In short, this bag, in my humble opinion is the perfect transition bag from newborn/infant GIANT changing bag to toddler/mummy fashionable dual purpose changing bag. This is definitely one that would serve perfectly when a changing bag is no longer needed. I could just see my laptop sitting in the centre compartment…that is, if I had a laptop to take around with me!

So, dear readers…how would you like to own one of these lovely Willvin Changing bags?? I need you to go to their site and have a browse and answer the following question in order to be considered for this competition:

  • What is the name of the mum behind Willvin and what was her inspiration?

Answer the question in the comment box below and tweet about this competition for an additional entry. While you’re checking out the Willvin site, have a look at their Facebook Fan page as well! This competition will run from 19 August to 26 August with the winner of the competition announced next Friday 27 August. Willvin will send the winner THEIR CHOICE of changing bag (any one!) directly. Yes, I know…it’s a pretty great prize! I haven’t run a competition in a VERY LONG TIME so you know this has to be good! Good luck and see you next Friday to announce the winner.

SAM 0086 300x168 Big Adventures for Little Miss

Ooh, I’m a little bit excited!  Mummy told me that we’re going to the London Zoo again!  She mentioned something about meeting some other Mummies there.  What was that word again?  Bloggers?  Boogers?  Not sure…but they’re just like Mummy.  They sit at the computer a lot.  Mummy told Daddy that he was coming too.  He wasn’t too sure about it and had a rather funny expression on his face but Mummy said!  She has to remind him about things a lot…he forgets.  I think he might forget on purpose but what do I know?  I’m not even 2 years old!  I forget a lot too!  I never forget when I’ve done a poo though.  I tell Mummy about that!

So, the last time we went to the London Zoo I was with my best friend.  Mummy had everything we needed, or so she said.  But I think she forgot a few things.  So, this time, I’m bringing my own bag.  My Trunki.  I’ll have Daddy put it in the boot.  Daddy says we’re driving down to the London Zoo this time.  No trains.  That makes me a little bit sad but Mummy sure does huff and puff a lot when we take the train and it’s not very fun bumping up and down the steps in my pushchair, so maybe this is a better plan.  Here’s what I need to bring with me on our trip to the London Zoo…I hope Mummy can read my writing!  Maybe if I get someone to email it to her, then we’ll be ok?!

  • A bottle of Milton sterilising solution to clean the baby changing area in the London Zoo toilet- ewww, not pretty.
  • My Little Life backpack so I don’t have to stay in the pushchair all the LIVE LONG DAY!  I need my freedom!
  • Food to feed to the penguins!  They are really funny and seem to like fish which I don’t like so I can give them some of mine.
  • My “In the Night Garden” figurines.  I think they really want to meet the gorillas since I told them how cool they were so we’ll bring them along this time.
  • 2 Changes of clothes- last time we were there I got a bit wet thanks to the rubbish nappies I was wearing (not name brand mind you…bargain basement is NOT the way to go).  I like to be fashionable and warm so I would prefer to have a few options in case I spill or those monkeys get too close.
  • Baby- now that Teeny Tiny Tears (aka Baby) has a proper hole in her mouth, she deserves a proper outing into the big wide world.  She really likes watching The WotWots with me in the morning so I think she’d like to see animals up close and personal.
  • Good Dancing Music- why do we have to listen to Radio 2 in the car Mummy?  I like to kick it…you know that!  How about some Black Eyed Peas or something?  Michael Bublé will do in a pinch but come on Mummy, you’re not Nanny & Grandad’s age!  Just give Radio 1 a chance.  Chris Moyles isn’t THAT annoying!
  • CHOCOLATE- Mummy, I’m 17 months old.  You NEVER, EVER let me have chocolate!  My best friends get to have chocolate!  Buttons, bars…the lot!  I will be really good!  I promise.  Eating good things all of the time is not very fun.  I know I’m nice and healthy and strong and fit but come on Mummy!  Lighten up!

I think that will just about cover it Mummy.  And you can bring your usual Changing Bag Which Contains the World and we’ll all feel better for that!  Thanks Mummy…I’m really looking forward to going to the London Zoo again in two weeks.  I know you’re going to be meeting some of those other BMB Mummies but let’s make sure to get to see all of the animals this time Mummy.  Last time we missed a whole bunch.  Oh, and just so you know…I really love spending time with just you and Daddy.  You’re pretty good fun and you sure do love me a lot and you know what…I LOVE YOU TOO.  Thanks Mummy…you’re not so bad at this Mummy stuff.

Baby and All Bag

Posted by on Nov 1, 2009 in Great Finds, Out and About | 2 comments

On a recent trip to London, the Baby and All bag, which I received as a prize in a blog competition on Yummy Mummy Tips, became our saviour.  I had packed it with Little Miss’ toys to keep her entertained while I was at a blogging event.  When I hung it across my body, messenger style whilst disembarking from the train from Peterborough to Kings Cross, I popped Little Miss on the Baby and All bag and quickly realised what a brilliant product it is.

thumb Olivia designer HFHC flat1 Baby and All Bag

  • STRENGTHS:  The Baby and All bag is stylish, durable and has loads of storage which will easily take you through a day out and about.  The interior of the bag is lined with a wipable material that is essential for mums.  You will be able to safely secure your child onto your hip whilst negotiating any mode of transportation and keeping your hands free.  The zip allows you to secure your precious belongings and easily access them when you need them.  The Baby and All bag stands on its own when you put it down on the floor or another surface.  We received the ‘Olivia’ bag which is the more “blingy” style and it is very stylish and fashionable.  The fabric still remains wipeable and wearable which is a MUST for any mum.
  • WEAKNESSES:  If your child has bare legs, the ‘Olivia’ bag, after a time, can rub on their legs.  It might be worth the designer considering if it’s possible to have an additional, removable pad which would give more cushion to the zip/seat.  If you’re packing for a weekend away, the Baby and All bag will not fit everything you need but for a day out, you’ll be more than prepared.  The included changing pad is lovely and cushioned but, if you keep it in the bag, you won’t have much room for your belongings.  I had to substitute it with a flat, foldable changing pad.
  • OPINION:  I was skeptical about the Baby and All bag, initially.  It was cool looking and had a spacious interior but I didn’t appreciate its real value until I popped Little Miss onto it on a recent trip to London.  She sat securely on my side and remained quite comfortable.  My hands were free to hold onto the rails on the Underground trains and carry our other changing bag.  A second trip into London saw me using ONLY the Baby and All bag which accommodated all our necessities and still provided a comfortable seat for Little Miss.  If you live in a big city and/or take public transport frequently, I would highly recommend adding the Baby and All bag to your arsenal.  You won’t have to fuss about with a pushchair and your child can still remain secure and safe with you at all times.  You won’t have the convenience of the pushchair shopping basket but you will get about with a lot less stress.
  • TECHNICAL STUFF:  4 in 1 carrier; Used for babies from 7-15kg;  Colours:  Kerry- Black, Olivia- Brown, Bella- Purple;   Kerry bag RRP = £45.00; Olivia/Bella bag RRP = £98.95
  • RATING:  4.5 out of 5
