About

Welcome to Cafe Bebe! My name is Karin Joyce and I created Cafe Bebe in May of 2009 as a means to retaining a teeny bit of my sanity after becoming a mum for the first time in June 2008.

My daughter, Ella, is 3 1/2 years old and is a delightful, precocious, verbal and sensitive young girl. She loves dancing, swimming, Cbeebies and tea parties. Ella is also quite fond of her scooter, making necklaces and bracelets and desperately wants to start gymnastics. But only as long as Mummy and Daddy can stay and watch!

Our latest (and probably final) member of the Cafe Bebe family is baby Sam, born on American Thanksgiving, November of 2011. Sam is rather partial to Mummy, amused by his big sister Ella and mostly concerned with milk, dummies and nappies. Sam is more than happy to give the latest baby products and gadgets a whirl for reviewing but only if he can still have Mummy cuddles most of the time.

My husband, Mark, is not 2 years old and is a wonderful, thoughtful and patient husband. He loves mountain biking, motorsport, Top Gear and tea parties. Mark is also quite fond of me and a good roast dinner. Hopefully in that order.

Back in May of 2009 in an effort to maintain my sanity following the birth of mt daughter Ella in June of 2008, I decided to dip my toe into the great wide world of parent blogging. Café Bebe was launched and has gone through several incarnations in the last 2 ½ years. Café Bebe has allowed me to share her adventures as a mum, American expat, wife and daughter. As has become the trend, shortly after beginning Cafe Bebe, I began reviewing baby/toddler products. After testing and reviewing over 20 pushchairs in one year in addition to numerous other wonderful products, services and campaigns, I have become a bit more selective about the reviews we accept. Café Bebe is more of a reflection on our growing family, adventures in gluten-free eating and baking and finding my way in the parent blogging community.

In addition to this blog, I am a freelance social media consultant who has worked with several PR agencies and brands and currently work with BritMums, the UK’s largest parent blogging social network. I am the “voice” behind the BritMums Social Media presence in addition to contributing regularly to the BritMums Blog and BritMums community.

If you are interested in discussing your brand’s social media presence or are in need of a freelance blogger or wish to start a blogging campaign, feel free to contact me through my contact me page or on the form below. Although time is short, if you have a product you would like to suggest for review and it is in harmony with the needs and likes of the Cafe Bebe family, we will happily consider requests for reviews. Thank you for your interest in Cafe Bebe and I look forward to hearing from you.

Keep your baby warm and stylish with LIttle Apple By Bonnie Baby

Gwyneth Paltrow’s favourite babywear label’s capsule collection for Mothercare

Bonnie Baby, the UK’s most sought after luxury children’s knitwear label, has launched a capsule diffusion line, now on sale exclusively in Mothercare. The collection is flying out of the stores and is the perfect way to keep babies warm and still looking stylish.

The collection, called Little Apple by Bonnie Baby, is designed by former Sonia Rykiel head knitwear designer Tracey Samuel. The collection captures the Bonnie Baby signature style – great contemporary design with a twist, wonderful quality and stylish packaging. It gives babies a real touch of luxury whilst still being extremely practical – the entire range is fully machine washable.

The Little Apple by Bonnie Baby capsule collection features a long sleeve knitted playsuit (£28), hooded cardigan (£26), dress (£28), knitted shawl (£30), hat (£10) and booties (£12), all made from a unique blend of 95% cotton and 5% cashmere. The designs feature the Bonnie Baby signature stripe in shades of candy/ raspberry and creme for girls or aqua/ocean and soft grey for boys.

Bonnie Baby has become one of the UK’s coolest children’s fashionwear labels, popular with celebrities and royalty alike. Gwyneth Paltrow chose the label for her daughter Apple after she “fell in love with the quality and softness” and promptly bought the whole collection, Jools Oliver dressed Poppy and Daisy in matching Bonnie Baby and Emma Bunton chose Bonnie Baby’s striped cashmere baby grow for her son Beau’s first appearance on stage with The Spice Girls. Other celebrity fans of the label including Isla Fisher, Louise Rednapp and the Danish royal family.

Renowned knitwear designer Tracey Samuel launched the label in 2004, after many years working in Paris as head knitwear designer for Sonia Rykiel. Since that time, Bonnie Baby has developed a reputation for creating babywear that combines quality and style with practicality.

What all the coolest babies are wearing… Bonnie Baby is luxury that you can live with.

    Karin:

I know you are a transplant from across the Atlantic (just like me!), but I thought you might be interested in a campaign I’m working on with Shreddies that is saluting knitting nanas across the UK.

Shreddies is giving people the chance to honour their nanas by asking the question – Does your nana have what it takes to get the position of best Nana Job in the World!

The Shreddies campaign, which was launched on Facebook last week, will see the UK’s best nana knitter win the opportunity to be the Official On-Packet Knitting Nana for Shreddies. Full details of the campaign can be found at http://www.facebook.com/knittingnanas?ref=ts. You can also see more about how nanas make Shreddies and spend their time in the factory at the interactive, video, game and fact-filled site at knittedbynanas.com.

The current frontrunner for the job is Madge Waken from Stevenage, Hertforshire who has already generated over 1,300 votes.

I have attached the release below for your information. If you have any questions or need video links or photography for use in the blog, please don’t hesitate to contact me. And looking forward to being in contact more often in the future!

    Best,

BEST NANA JOB IN THE WORLD

Thousands vote to secure job for their Nana

Last year Briton Ben Southall, 34, from Petersfield, Hampshire, emerged from thousands of applicants to win what was dubbed ‘the best job in the world’, caretaker on the spectacular Hamilton Island, Australia.

A far more fun and exciting opportunity has emerged through internet websites, capturing the imagination of people up and down the country and causing people to do crazy things to win this coveted new job.

The campaign, which has only been running on Facebook so far, has already attracted hundreds of would-be knitting nanas and thousands of voters. The start of the TV advertising, launching w/c 26th April, is likely to bring a new avalanche of CVs as a far wider group of Nana’s become aware of the chance to become the next Shreddies knitting nana.

Pearl Burrows, Chief Knitting Officer at the Shreddies factory says, “We considered just putting a small ad in the local paper, but we thought we’d
miss the opportunity to meet so many incredible knitters across the country that we’d be far better off putting our ad on the television.

“This is bigger than the election! I’m surprised those nice politician boys haven’t been up to see us yet. Maybe their mums could apply? I think Nana Cameron might be an excellent knitter.

“We’re looking for someone who is good fun, an excellent knitter and who doesn’t mind making a nice cup of tea during our break, she will be a trainee after all. Her first job will be to take part in ever such a glamorous photo-shoot and become the Official On-Packet Knitting Nana.

“The other thing is that she must be a Nana, we just think Nana’s make better knitters.

And Pearl isn’t impressed with the applications made by some, “Some granddads have applied but I can tell you now, they won’t be making the final short-list, everyone knows only nanas can knit those delicious Shreddies!”

The current front-runner for the job is Madge Wakem from Stevenage, Hertfordshire with almost 1,300 votes.

Nana’s can be entered to the competition and voted for at http://www.facebook.com/knittingnanas?ref=ts
