You know it’s been a good day when, despite intermittent rain, loads of people, a slightly frightened toddler and multiple tube changes, you can still have a smile on your face and say “Today was a really fun day!” We visited Lollibop, the hip London family festival, in its new home at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. I was anxious about going today as I feared the rain would wash our enthusiasm away but the rain was only occasional and light and we couldn’t help but be happy today.
When I told Ella earlier this week that we were going to Lollibop and that one of her favourite Cbeebies presenters, Katy Ashworth of I Can Cook fame, was going to be there, Ella was so excited. She said, “I’m going to give her a big cuddle when I meet her!” I said, “Oh sweetheart, I don’t know if that will happen but we’ll see!” I was pretty sure it wouldn’t happen but guess what? Dreams do come true at Lollibop!
Katy performed in the Lollikitchen (she could have had the main stage she was so popular) and I was terribly impressed with her enthusiasm and energy considering the bump she’s carrying around! The kids (and parents) were singing and dancing and having a grand old time. We had been told that Katy would do a Meet and Greet after her show but I wasn’t sure that Ella would be able to get in. Bless her, my daughter knows what she wants and gets it! She swizzled herself right into that Meet and Greet queue and darned if she didn’t give Katy the biggest cuddle ever. It made both of our day!
We were guests of Little Tikes this year for Lollibop and they had a fantastic play space set up with every bit of Little Tikes equipment you could ever want. It was a wonderland. Ella and Sam both spent quality time in the Little Tikes coupe that we all know and love. It was the perfect place to let the kids loose to play and have fun.
We have had the pleasure of attending Lollibop the last two years when Lollibop was held at Regents Park. Each of the last two years I have come away feeling less than enthused about our time at Lollibop. This year was entirely different. Whether it was the change in venue (much easier to negotiate and find things, more space) or a change in my attitude, we had a blast at Lollibop. The Hubby even rated it as “the best event I’ve been to” and I’ve dragged Mark along to a fair few events. My recommendations? Pack a picnic, have a look at the schedule and plan out what you want to see and where you want to visit and accept that there will be plenty of things you won’t have time to see. You will leave the venue happy and satisfied if you take these tips into account. Oh, and make sure your children have welly boots that fit and rain coats that do as well or you will be making a pit stop before reaching your destination.
This year’s Lollibop? Brilliant! Katy Ashworth made Ella’s dreams come true and we had another fab family day out. Thank you to Little Tikes and Fleishman-Hillard PR. We’re looking forward to next year already!
