For the last 6 or so years, I feared we had lost you. You refused to show yourself fully each year and caused greater grumbling and complaining than ever. However, this year, Summer, you have redeemed yourself. This year you allowed us to have glorious weekday adventures and happy weekend outings. We had one weekday where you allowed the rain to clean the pavement and make puddles enough to splash in but we were grateful for that chance to put on our wellies and get wet. When most of your days are spent in sunshine, a teeny bit of rain is a welcome diversion.
Thanks to you, Summer, my children have a healthy glow about them and Sam’s hair has gone nearly white/blonde. You also have helped me to gain a bit of colour on my pasty whiteness and better still, have helped me to overcome a potential slip back into depression. Who can be sad and blue when the sun shines? Not I!
Honestly, Summer, you have given us your best for all 5 1/2 weeks since Ella walked out of her Reception class for the last time in preparation for a new year of adventure in Year 1. We’ve never had it so good as a family. We’ve been into the woods, had picnics, played in the garden, gone to London, visited local attractions and special hidden gems. We’ve started a new tradition of Friday Night Family Picnic and remembered how very much we enjoy spending time at Burghley House. We’ve enjoyed ice cream, burgers, baking and eating out. We’ve spent time on our scooters and bikes and perfected jumping into the pool and swimming laps. Despite the cold water in Grandad’s pool, because you managed to turn up the heat on the sunshine, Summer, we persevered and got wet more than we have in years. We may have forgotten to do any writing, reading or educational stuff but guess what? I don’t care. You can learn by doing as well!
So thank you Summer. You have helped to make 2013 a pretty awesome time as a family. Feel free to keep the sunshine cooking for the next few weeks and don’t forget to come back back next year around May or June. Cheers for all of the good times! See you soon…
Love, the Cafe Bebe family
