So today I decided to kick my butt into gear. Over the weekend I ordered Jillian Michaels The Collection which includes her (in)famous 30 Day Shred. A lot of bloggers and others I follow on social media channels have been doing the 30 Day Shred. I have heard tales of tears and pain, wobbles and sore muscles. Yet still, I feel the need to do it too! Thanks to gift certificates on Amazon from family in the US, I decided to treat myself to two items: the Jillian Michaels DVDs and a FitBit pedometer/thingamajig. Guess what arrived this morning right before the school run??
After the school run I took the DVDs out of the packaging, opened the 30 Day Shred DVD and decided there was no time like the present. Thankfully, the workouts on 30 Day Shred are only about 20 minutes. Everyone has 20 minutes! Even SAHM/WAHM have 20 minutes in the day! I started off and just as I was beginning, Sam began to throw an almighty tantrum. So, I picked up my 20-odd-pound son and kept up with Jillian & her dutiful assistants. I modified a bit on the cardio by keeping it low-impact as I was holding Sam. Believe it or not, by the end Sam was asleep! I also modified the abdominal exercises as I still have a significant diastasis recti (no I’m not pregnant!) and crunches are not recommended for me. Instead I did my “zip it” transverse abdominal activation exercises throughout the ab section.
By the end of the 20 minutes I was red-faced, sweating, quivery and wobbly in addition to being dizzy and slightly nauseous. I attribute the nausea and dizziness to the fact that I hadn’t eaten breakfast. You know what though? I felt GREAT! I had accomplished a workout! The first workout in a couple of YEARS! I know I’ll be in pain tomorrow but I did Day One. And I’m very determined to get to Day 30! I’m enlisting support through social media channels and have even made a little calendar on our kitchen wall. Let’s see what I feel like in 29 days! Want to join me??
