A Whole New Perspective

Sam is 13 weeks old today! I find it a bit hard to believe actually! He’s grown and changed and learned a lot in the last 13 weeks. For example, he now readily anticipates his bottles when the muzzy goes around his neck. He’s learned that he can bat at the key toy hanging from his Fisher Price Soothing Motion seat and he’s always very happy to see it! Sam recognises everyone in our immediate family (well, the ones under our roof) and loves to watch his big sister. Ella can make Sam smile a lot easier than either myself or Mark. Sam is now beginning to tolerate spending time on his play mat and even watches the telly a bit from time to time. We’ve yet to hear a laugh but it’s so close now, I’m sure we’ll get one soon. I’m betting that Ella will be the one to make Sam laugh.

Yesterday, on the school run, I placed Sam in the Baby Bjorn carrier as I do every school run. I’ve kept Sam facing me in the carrier because until recently, Sam generally went straight to sleep once he was installed in the carrier. But the last few days Sam has not been sleeping but has instead been craning his neck to try to see what’s going on around him. I decided today would be the day to turn Sam around and let him see the world from a whole new perspective.

I could feel his excitement on seeing the world around him. He was sitting up so straight and looking everywhere. Can you imagine it? You’ve NEVER seen anything in the world before and this is your first glimpse of the footpath, grass, bushes, fences, gates and even HORSES in our case! It was so sweet. He kept gasping off and on because the wind was blowing quite a bit so it was taking his breath away (fear not, he was fine).

Once we got to Ella’s school Sam got to see loads of people he’d never seen before and everyone got to see him much better as well. It was such a fun walk today, bearing in mind that this was Sam’s first forward-facing journey in the great wide world. It made me appreciate things a bit more, that’s for sure. And made me realise that I really need to find some sort of cap with a brim/bill for Sam so I can keep his head warm and the sun out of his eyes.

Think about Baby Sam on your school run today…have a look at the world around you through fresh eyes; as if you were seeing it all for the first time. Might make the school run a bit more interesting!
