Halloween- Love it or Hate it?
Halloween is just around the corner. In case you have no clue (and what cave have you been living in?) the 31st of October is the big day. Now, being an American means that I have a slightly different perspective on Halloween. No holiday in America goes untouched by corporate America. The Halloween merchandise, decorations and candy comes out around June. About my only favourite thing about Halloween in America are the bite-sized versions of all of your favourite sweets and chocolate bars. Perfect for snacking and stuffing in your mouth so the kids don’t notice!
I’m going to share my memories of Halloween’s past and thoughts for Halloween future with Ella. Feel free to leave me your thoughts and memories in the comments below.

My birthday is on 27th October. I always got halloween style presents from friends at school. I think I still have some pumpkin bags, black cat stationery etc and I’m now 3o (31 next week…. hitting me much harder than 30). It wasn’t that annoying but my birthday was always tricky to fit around halloween style parties. Fancy dress? Hah! Now my second daughter’s birthday (1st birthday) is on 6th November so she’s going to have the same with bonfire night. I’ve actually surrendered this year and am throwing a halloween party (rather than resisting). Last year I was 39 wks pregnant and we moved on 26th Oct. The poor trick or treaters got cereal bars because it’s all we had in the house!
I love Halloween and always make an effort to decorate the porch, carve a pumpkin or two with the littlies and get lots of goodies in – the last two I have made gingerbread shapes (bats, ghosts, witches etc) which make a nice change from copious amounts of sweets!
We go trick or treating and the majority of our neighbours join in with good humour. There are a few however that insist on giving notes or telling us off for celebrating evil which spoils what should be a good natured evening of fun for the kids.
If you dont want your door knocked – simple – just stick a note to it! Easy
