Baby Advice from SJP, my new best friend
You know how Friday goes. The end of the week, anticipating the weekend, trying to get work done early so you can fully enjoy the next two days. And then you have to take a conference call with SARAH JESSICA PARKER!!! SJP herself! OMG!
That’s right, along with 4 other amazing BritMums, I had the opportunity to chat with Sarah Jessica Parker about her life, her new film “I Don’t Know How She Does It”, her love of McVities digestives and Scotch Eggs and generally have a good old giggle for about 30 minutes.
Obviously, as “I Don’t Know How She Does It” was just released in the UK last week, SJP has been doing plenty of press. She was a guest on Jonathon Ross a couple of weeks ago (Hubby and I watched it while on holiday in Tenerife) and was supposed to speak with BritMums when she was in London. That didn’t happen (you know how these things go) but the PR’s were able to arrange another opportunity to speak to her with a conference call on Friday. One minute we’re all on hold on the conference call and the next minute, Sarah Jessica’s voice comes over the line. I have to admit, the grin on my face was HUGE. It was REALLY Sarah Jessica Parker! Ahhhh!
I have to say, gushing aside, Sarah Jessica Parker is extremely personable, friendly and downright lovely. Oh, perhaps that is gushing after all. When each of us introduced ourselves and mentioned our blogs, jobs, children, she said “Oh my God, I should be asking all of you for advice!” We each had the opportunity to ask her questions and she was so sweet in answering all of them and taking 30 minutes out of her busy day to entertain us!
After embarrassingly disconnecting myself from the conference call (apparently SJP said “Was I that boring?” when I clicked off), I was back and able to ask Sarah Jessica whether making “couple” time with husband Matthew Broderick was important to their marriage (I’ve got my own Relationship SOS going on after all). She said, like every couple, they make an effort every “once in a while” and then wonder why they don’t go on dates more often. Then life comes up and they forget. She also, rather hilariously mentioned that as their children (son James Wilkie and twin daughters Loretta and Tabitha) “still like us”, she and Matthew are more inclined to focus on family time at the moment.
SJP shared with me some great advice about “bringing home baby” as they’ve gone through that in the last 2 years with James Wilkie (soon to be 9) and their 2 year old twin daughters. Sarah Jessica said that at first James Wilkie was very enamoured with his sisters but that shortly after they started crying, making noise, generally disrupting their formerly quiet existence, he had other thoughts. But now that the girls are older and ADORE him, he’s come around to thinking they’re pretty okay after all. This is reassuring considering that in about 10 weeks, we’ll be bringing home our own Bebe to test Ella’s resolve.
All in all, our conversation with Sarah Jessica Parker was simply delightful. She talked about “settling-in” sessions at her daughter’s preschool (sitting on tiny chairs and “being there but NOT being there”), her world-class chilli recipe which she WILL NOT share and generally loving the time she has right now with her family. SJP will not be doing a movie for a while now so get her while you can. I know this was just a conversation with a rather famous celebrity and she very well may be entirely different in person but I came away from this conference call very impressed with Sarah Jessica Parker. And I may or may not have SQUEALED to the hubby and said “Oh. My. God.” a time or three. (Read a much more in-depth account of our interview with Sarah Jessica Parker at BritMums Blog…I don’t do short-hand!)
Thanks for the baby advice, SJP. Let me know when you’re next in London. We’ll do lunch!

Jealous much?!?! *allows inner green eyed monster to climb back into her hole*
Incidentally I suspect Ella will be fine when Bebe arrives. We talked about the baby in mummy’s tummy every day with Taylor, we read the books, Milo brought him presents etc & he loved him from the start. They adore each other, there has been very little rivalry & honestly I can’t imagine only having one now!
xx
Flossiebella,
How lovely to hear about your children! Ella is very keen right now…just worrying about a bit of jealousy but we plan on involving her a lot and having her be the “helping Big Sister”. And Sarah Jessica Parker was truly lovely. I totally squealed when the call was done!
Karin
WOW. Afraid that’s all I can manage at the moment. Wow! Jealous!
Pictorial Mum,
Thanks…she was truly lovely!
Karin
You lucky,lucky bugger!
Although I did have a rather lovely tea-time date with my Ozzy(2) and Bean (3) today – there was an array of cream cakes so we were all happy… the only SJP we had was Sticky Jam Pinkies !
lol already I am cringing at that corny Sticky Jam Pinkies comment !
Wow what an amazing opportunity to get to interview SJP!!! x
How exciting – a real celebrity. I still maintain tho that the film will be nothing like reality. I mean no-one can look that good with kids and work to do too *skulks off to get out of pyjamas at 11am*
Actually Mummy,
Yes, I have to say, it was definitely one of the more exciting things I’ve been able to do as a result of blogging!
If you could see how I spent most of yesterday…well, you could come over because we’d be dressed the same!
Karin
Richmond Mummy,
I swear, I could have talked to her for ages. She totally put us all at ease…I wish we would have had more time. Maybe she wants to do lunch when she’s next in London?? Do you think?????
Karin
Annie,

Trust you to lower the tone! Sticky Jam Pinkies?? I mean come on!
Mind you, while I was on the conference call to SJP I had Ella in the back garden in the sandbox and hubby ignoring her whilst reading the paper. Ever so helpful!
Karin
I’m so pleased for you what a fabulous opportunity. I’d have LOVED to have tried something equally exciting. I love SJP always have and have all the box sets of SATC xx
