Haircut mistake or masterpiece?
First of all, apologies and mea culpa for the lack of blogging service this last week. I have hit a bit of a blogging lull! Between freelance work commitments, Ella turning 3 and being 14 weeks pregnant, I’m finding myself staring at my lovely Cafe Bebe dashboard and saying “Duh….” Poor Cafe Bebe! I know I have to catch up…there are “reviews” to write, vlogs to record, birthday memories to share, etc, etc, etc. I will attempt to get my arse in gear and get on the right track this weekend. Until then, bear with me on a short post where I ask for your opinion…
Ella has lovely hair. It’s fine, wavy (sometimes curly after a sleep) and lovely. She doesn’t really have a “style”. It just grows and curls and is rather cute. I put bunches in it from time to time, the odd hair clip, you know the drill. I’m no hairdresser but she looks rather cute most of the time! However, as of late, Ella has begun to look a bit “wayward urchin-like” if you will. A rag-a-muffin perhaps. Her fringe was getting long, her hair was a bit out of it and it generally looked like she’d been through a wind-storm most of the time.
We’ve gotten her hair trimmed a few times in her life. In fact, I think you could count the number of times on one hand. I’ll never forget the first time we got it cut where she screamed hysterically thus rendering the cutting impossible and only minor fluffs of hair were removed from her sobbing head. She’s gotten much better about having her hair cut and comes with me to the hair salon when I get my hair cut every 8-10 weeks which is about 4-6 weeks longer than I should go. The lovely hairdresser, Claire, would do Ella’s hair first, putting her on the seat with a booster, draping her in a kiddie cape and gently wisping around her hair cutting off about a centimetre of hair in total. But it was always tidied up nicely and she looked lovely again.
Now Claire is gone from our salon and Ella’s rather wary of the other woman there so I thought maybe my friend Bina could help me out with a quick trim as she cuts her daughter’s hair regularly and it always looks lovely. Now Ella’s hair, I remind you, is wavy/curly while Bina’s daughter’s hair is stick straight. Bina brought the scissors yesterday and had a go at Ella’s fringe (bangs). It turned out surprisingly well, if a teeny bit short but that was ok! The problem was, the rest of her hair looked a right scruff. Bina suggested that I get the rest of her hair cut by a professional. I’m stubborn though. Here’s what happened next!
Ooh…a wee bit shorter than anticipated maybe?? But actually, it all seems ok? Doesn’t it? I’m wondering if I’ve created a haircuit mistake or masterpiece here. What do you think? Compare her on her birthday and yesterday…ready, steady, compare…
Be gentle with me! I don’t want to think I’ve ruined my daughter’s life by attempting to do something that one should really leave to the “professionals”. I think she looks rather cute. The waves and curls are still there, there are no straggling pieces, it’s even on both sides and both her Daddy and Grandparents thought she looked lovely. What do you think? Should I enroll in a hairdressing course or leave the next hair cut to the hairdressers??

I think she looks jyst as gorgeous so masterpiece x
She’s cute enough to carry off any hairstyle (and the fringe will grow soon enough…!!)
Definitely cute enough already and yes she can carry any hair style off, but personally I’d invest in a professional cut ( I say this as mother of a boy who has only just overcome a phobia of hairdressers) It’s just less stressful all round!
I love it!! But I’m not sure I will be taking up a profession in hairdressing any time soon
Do I dare comment? I’m still being chastised for having your hair cut at age four! It’s different when you’re the mommy, yes? No, really my dear, it is lovely….she’s a cutie. Bina did a nice job as well.
Love you
I think it’s lovely! I still cut L’s hair and she’ 7! We’ve had a couple of interesting times when she was little but these days she sits nice and still and I’m really happy with it, and that’s all that counts!
