Flashback Friday- Life After Kids

May 13, 2011 by

Another bebe will be joining our family in about 30-something weeks so I’m finding myself a bit nostalgic about life BEFORE children and how our life has changed AFTER kids. The obvious changes have happened to our home, in particular. What once was a mostly tidy, regularly cleaned, fairly organised house has now become an occasionally tidy, infrequently cleaned, decidedly UN-organised house! But it’s also become a house filled with love, laughter, happiness and family. And I wouldn’t change a single thing. Honest!

In particular, the ground level of our house has has a major facelift. The kitchen has been almost entirely changed (with the exception of the cabinets (darn); the lounge has been IKEA’d to within an inch of its life and has actually become a place which is rather pleasant to sit in. The garden has probably seen the greatest transformation however. What was once a quiet, calm, manicured English Garden is now the garden of a nearly-three-year-old. The garden feature is no longer the teeny pond nor the Eucalyptus tree but rather the trampoline! The lawn doesn’t get mown nearly as much as it used to probably because we don’t notice the grass anymore for all of the other STUFF out there. I give you a bit of an audio-visual tour of our life and abode…

But each room is happy and reflects the people who live and laugh in them. And isn’t that the most important thing? Have a look at a few BEFORE and AFTER shots:

Ooh, I do love my kitchen so! It’s become a place to SIT and enjoy instead of a place to dump things and cook on occasion. We’re so pleased with the transformation!

Which is better? Not sure! I think I know which one Little Miss would vote for though. Hubby kind of misses his garden a bit though! Oh well, you can’t have it all, can you?

So, back to the point! It’s Flashback Friday today. The day where we delve back into the archives to find a happy memory or story or just a picture that you’d like to share. Write up your memories, pop back over and link up to share them with our tiny corner of the Blogosphere. Simple! Sit back and enjoy as you’re transported through time by some rather lovely bloggers.

  1. It is lovely to look back at how things were before children or BMC (before Mini Cheddar) as I say :) My Flashback is to BMC this week and how things have changed is mentioned at the end. I can’t post it though as Blogger has been down since last night! Grrrrr!

Your house looks absolutely lovely. I can’t seem to stream the video properly though, it keeps sticking – I always have problems with your video for some reason :(

    Loving that storage solution!

  2. SAHMlovingit- Hmmmm…that’s unfortunate about the video…will report it back to the techies and see what’s up…I’m sorry too! :( Hopefully Blogger will resolve it’s teddy-throwing and be back online soon. You’re welcome any time though, you know that! ;)

  4. Morning! I could watch the video perfectly and my dongle is usually the world’s most temperamental gadget in existance!
It’s days like this I’m happy I’m a WordPress girl but mustn’t speak too soon eh?
Great Flashback Karin, beautiful garden, ours is still a work in progress in fact our whole house is! Where did you get that storage system? I’m looking for something similar for the girls room which is my current DIY project.
    Happy Flashbacks everyone

  5. Great video and it is definitely a family home you have there, Good idea on the storage solution and good to see she has a little set of golf clubs…

  6. Oh wow your home is lovely! One day you suddenly look around and think ‘gosh were has all this stuff come from’ I know I did.

You wait till you baby arrives and you have two times the amount of stuff.

Our homes will one day be returned to the way they once were pre-children and you know what we will walk around those empty rooms wishing that they were filled with the love, laughter and mess that only children can bring…well that is until our Grandchildren arrive! :) ) x

  7. What a charming post! I love the video and the photos, especially of the garden!! My girls are older now so there is not so much stuff around – only their bedrooms usually look like a bomb exploded – but I remember the days of the swings, sandpit, mini swimming pool, etc.
Also want to say congratulations on being pregnant! I hope all is going well and no, you are not old!!

  8. you’ve got a gorgeous home! So exciting that number two will be hear soon xx

  9. I must say how neat & tidy your kitchen looks. I like the garden both ways, love all your trees, something we are lacking a bit in our garden. I can’t really remember what life was like without kids now!

  10. What a lovely post – and my what a beautiful kitchen and garden you have. I’m rather envious! :)

It is nice to look back to life before kids sometimes. I’m a mum of less than two years, but having been in my stepson’s life for the last 7 years I feel that life BC (before children) is still a LONG time ago.

So belatedly I thought I’d follow your lead but instead reminisc on one of many drunken nights with my little sis and some girl pals :) xXx

  11. I love this – it is funny how life changes so dramatically with parenthood. I particularly love your comment about your kitchen how it is now a place to ‘SIT and enjoy’ that makes it sound like a real home!

  12. Jenny paulin

Your home is lively and reflects your loving and happy family. Kitchens always are the hub of a home aren’t thru – a place to create and enjoy :0
Great before and after post. Xx

My comment should have read lovely not lively, but I am sure both words are appropriate! X

  14. I’m finally getting round to doing comments and I’ve just realised that I totally got it wrong this week and missed the Before and After prompt.
Total StupidNess! Will be more with it next week I promise.
I think that the trampoline definitely adds something to your garden. I can’t wait to get a trampoline! :)
