In a prompt from Tara Cain’s Gallery, we’ve been challenged to come up with a memory. I’m sharing with you the beginning of one of the most important relationships of my life…the beginning of the love of a lifetime. I took this picture of my now-husband Mark and I during one of the first weekends that I was in the UK during my study abroad term in Caen, France. We look so HAPPY!
I adore this picture. It was taken on 18 March, 2005 by my good friend Sarah. Sarah and I had just arrived in Portsmouth after taking the high speed ferry from Ouistreham to spend the weekend in the UK. Sarah was staying with friends in London and I was heading for another lovely weekend with Mark in the East Midlands. We drove up to London, trudged across to the London Eye with Sarah’s ridiculously heavy luggage and then sent her on her way with her friend.
Mark and I stayed at the London Eye. We stood right below the London Eye and that’s where he asked me to marry him. Right there and then. I said yes, of course. What a perfect setting! One year to the day later, we were married. What I love about this picture is that I had no idea that Mark was going to ask me to marry him so it’s a rather significant reminder of one of the best days of my life. And we do look ever so happy again!
This picture was taken during the first week of the rest of our lives. Mark had come to Caen to collect me on 29 May, 2005. We drove across France to Geneva, Switzerland where Mark’s twin sister and her family were living at the time. We spent the week with them enjoying all there was to do in Geneva and getting ready to spend the rest of our lives together. This picture was taken during a family picnic on the Saleve in France. I’m eating pretzels dipped in Nutella and am LOADS thinner (thank you France). We look rather HAPPY don’t we? And you know what? Five years on and we still are! We’re just as happy today as we were then…maybe even a bit more so? Thank in part to a Little Miss…
