My Favourite Time of Day
The day begins with a shout.
“Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama”
Accompanied by a “rattle, rattle, rattle” of the bars of her cot, she wants out!
We bundle her into bed with us for an early morning snuggle
buried under the covers, our life is pretty wonderful.
The day is filled with demands and needs
and lots of requests for “dummy please”.
There are more shouts of “go away” and
“Mummy, No!” now she’s nearly two.
But I still manage to steal a “snuggie” and an
“I lub a-you”.
But my favourite time of day is none of these,
it’s after our bedtime routine when I can get my squeeze.
Bathtime, pajamas, brushing teeth,
story-time with Daddy is special and sweet.
The handover to mummy is where my happiness begins.
A kiss from Daddy and night-night settles in.
We rock and rock while she has her bottle,
Mummy’s mind solves every problem.
A final drain of the bottle so near,
sleep will come soon my dear.
But first my Little Miss turns to me
she buries her head in my neck and breathes.
Her hand caresses my face as she settles down
she traces the contours but there’s never a frown.
This is my happiness, this is my bliss,
my life is fulfilled with my Little Miss.
Thank you my love, for loving me so
I’ll love you forever, this much you know…

Lovely entry, really enjoyed reading and it threw me back in time. I remember ‘rock rock’ time and it was amazing. I love now that my son is 7 and once he goes to bed, I shut the door and then I wait for…..’mummy, mummeeeeeee’ and then await the question, it can range from ‘what is 64 plus 61 hundred million’ to ‘what time is in Peru? to ‘just need another kiss’ -that’s my favourite time of day. Being a mum rocks! Exhausting but great.
