Yes, that’s right readers! It’s my birthday…well for approximately 2.5 more hours from writing this post. I’m going to admit my age…mainly because I cannot believe that I am THIS OLD!
I was born 39 years ago today! Oh.My.God. When did this happen? How did I get to be nearly 40 years old?? This must stop! (Well, I don’t really want my life to stop as I quite like being in it but you know what I mean.)
When I was younger, I thought 40 was pretty darn old. My parent’s age and all. Now I think, “How can I be nearly 40? I don’t feel this old! I don’t think I look this old!”. But then I remember that when my parents were 40, I was 17 years old! I’m 39 and my daughter is 17 months old! That’s the part that’s hard to believe.
But shock and horror aside, I had a brilliant day. I was allowed to have a bit of a lie-in this morning and then was greeted in bed with a cup of tea, some pain au chocolat, my gorgeous daughter and wonderful husband, a pretty bouquet of flowers and a new Michael Bublé CD to dance to. After a big of kickin’ it, we got ready for the day and headed to (wait for it!) McDonalds! It’s the little things in life, you know? We had an enjoyable afternoon in Peterborough, spent a little bit of a gift voucher on myself (does anyone else find it hard to spend money on yourself once you have a child?) and then went to the in-laws for the remainder of the day. My sister-in-law made a gorgeous chocolate fudge cake and we toasted the birthday with Fish and Chips all around. A perfect day was had by all, including Little Miss who was in fine form on her Mummy’s birthday (“Happy dooo” was what she said).
I used to hope for surprise parties and wild adventures…now all I hope for is a happy day with my girl and the love of my life. Who could ask for anything more? Has anything changed about the way you celebrate your birthday once you have kids? Share with me your BEST birthday celebration! I’m going to finish up the day spending some quality time with my lovely husband. Happy Birthday to me!
