Are you still there Karin? The reason I’m asking is because I was very disturbed by the conditions the big cats are being kept in at Lincoln Park (this was in August). I’ve been in touch with Born Free in the US and they asked me if I had any video footage, unfortunately I’d changed mobile phones in the interim and can’t download the footage I took from the old one. If you’re still there, and you get this, and you happen to have taken some footage of the big cats, let me know!
Thanks Liz- sorry I could get your email in time. The big cats looked fine to me but I’m no expert. I was quite impressed with the efforts that Lincoln Park Zoo made with their exhibits…lots of information and such. I suppose any zoo is going to struggle aren’t they?
The conditions the big cats and gorillas are kept in is a cause for concern for both PETA (who want it closed) and Born Free because some animals have died there recently in the last few years. It’s interesting… of course we want our little ones to see animals and appreciate the world but short of taking them to Africa it’s not always possible for them to see them in the wild. I know if we hadn’t seen polar bears in San Diego zoo we may not have seen them at all. But at the same time I can’t bear seeing animals distressed (pacing up and down) which is what the tigers at Lincoln Park were doing when we there. I do appreciate though that it’s a free zoo in the middle of a city.
I’ve got a secret to tell you, but don’t tell your Mummy! x
